What is Trace Frameworks?

Trace Frameworks is a composition system built from repeatable constraints: blocks, anchors, catches, releases, and chance-based directions. Each project is a different “run” through the system, using new starting material but the same underlying rules.

Every album documented here includes:

  • Block lists and direction card draws
  • Worksheets, mosaics, and process notes
  • Sample packs from the sessions
  • Links to the final release and Substack essay

This site is meant as:

  • An archive for the 24-project cycle
  • A resource for other artists who want to adapt the framework
  • A place to share the “behind the scenes” documents

Over time, you’ll also find guides for using Trace Frameworks in classrooms, workshops, and collaborative projects.
